Dollar series part II - What happens to society when capitalism’s representatives put their heads together to eliminate the competition?

They are dying out (DE)
IIA

Directed by Peter Handke / De Roovers

In this tragicomedy, the avantgarde icon Peter Handke presents his take on the motives of a group of leading entrepreneurs, representatives of a ruthless segment of society.

The entrepreneurs conspire in an illegal bout of price fixing in order to eliminate market competition. But one man chooses to not hold up his end of the bargain. Mercilessly, they all try to keep up, but soon doubt and suspicion take hold. They Are Dying Out is a lyrical reckoning with the systems and intrigues of a capitalist system spun out of control.

The Dutch theatre company de Roovers has adapted Handke’s play to a modern staging of the abuses of power and the culture of greed of our time. The entrepreneurs and their greedy (mal)practices they represent are universal. They caused the first cracks in the world’s financial system, culminating in our current global crisis.
