The Lady from the Sea (NO)
A Nordic artist trio places The Lady from the Sea in our own time, but Ibsen's fundamental questions are the same.

Directed by Tatu Hämäläinen / Rogaland Teater
Freedom with responsibility is no easy matter. In earlier times, people had fewer option; today we are faced with countless choices. The Lady from the Sea is a drama about people's pursuit of happiness, about people in and around a lost family, people who yearn for something different – something better.
A young Scandinavian trio – the director Tatu Hämäläinen from Finland, set designer Chrisander Brun from Norway and composer and musician Franz Edward Cedrins from Sweden – have taken up the challenge posed by the Norwegian national icon, Ibsen. In the process, they have taken the liberty of questioning the text. They have elucidated the psychological games in Ibsen's story and adapted it to an audience in 2014.
“But now – now you you are fully released from me and all that is mine. Now your own true life may resume its real bent again, for now you can choose in freedom, and on your own responsibility, Ellida.” (Wangel, Act 5).
