John Gabriel Borkman (DE)
The rewarded film- and theater actors Josef Bierbichler and Angela Winkler have received splendid reviews for their role interpretations in John Gabriel Borkman .

Directed by Thomas Ostermeier / Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz
Angela Winkler, who plays Ella Rentheim, received in the Ibsen Year 2006 the distinguished Ibsen Centennial Award for her prior Ibsen characters. Bierbichler, who plays Borkman, is probably most known for his role in Mikael Hanke’s latest film The White Ribbon. However, it is not only Bierbichler who has received praise in Thomas Ostermeier’s John Gabriel Borkman: ‘A new chapter in European theatre history has commenced’, wrote Le Monde in its review. In recent years, director Thomas Ostermeier has been setting new trends with his powerful, contemporary interpretations of Ibsen. A strong acting ensemble from the Schaubühne mixes distorted humour with a typically frosty and formal Germanic manner, resulting in a modern interpretation of the work.
