Rosmersholm

One of the playwright’s darkest and most complex plays

Rosmersholm
In-house Production

Directed by Eirik Stubø

Rosmersholm is a parsonage where Johannes Rosmer and Rebecca West live in a vacuum after the suicide of Johannes’ wife. When the silence is finally broken, uncontrolled forces are set in motion – leading along an unparalleled path to destruction.

The final version of Rosmersholm appeared in 1886. Some of the critics gave the play a negative reception, and it has not been performed often. Nevertheless, Rosmersholm remains as one of Ibsen’s most intriguing dramas, with some of his most fascinating characters in the roles.

In recent years the retiring Artistic Director, Eirik Stubø has distinguished himself as a leading producer of Ibsen. Hedda Gabler and The Wild Duck attracted international attention and acclaim. After a guest performance in New York, The Wild Duck was nominated as one of the ten best theatre productions of the year by New York Magazine, and was highly praised by the New York Times. Eirik Stubø received the American OBIE award for his direction of The Wild Duck in April 2007.
